Sonnenhof
Lech am Arlberg, Austria

The Sonnenhof, from the team behind the legendary Almhof Schneider, is a well-preserved house dating back to the 14th and 15th centuries, featuring typical ‘Walser’ architecture. It is located slightly above the Hinterwies lift station, on a spacious, traffic-free slope with views of snow-covered peaks in winter and hilly meadows in summer. Its name – which translates to ‘sunny inn’ – is not an empty promise. Based on a comprehensive historical analysis, the structure of the house has been meticulously restored over the past two years and adapted for its new use with great attention to detail. Starting from December 2023, the Sonnenhof will be available to rent on a weekly basis.

Rote Wand Gourmet Hotel
Zug, Lech am Arlberg, Austria

The Rote Wand started life as a simple farmhouse in Zug in the mid 17th century. In the 1950s, its owners, the Walchs, turned it into a cafe and guest house: people came from neighbouring Lech for Burgi’s legendary apple strudel and shredded pancakes; while Josef, a ski instructor, brought his guests from by horse-drawn sleigh for fondue, which often turned into dancing in the cellar bar. Now with their son Joschi at the helm, the Rote Wand has evolved into one of the best hotels at the Arlberg with a beautiful spa — but still with food and warm-hearted service at its core.
