Known as the ‘green heart of Italy’, the region of Umbria is one of the finest holiday destinations, not only in Italy but also in the whole of Europe. The capital, Perugia, is located between Rome and Florence. Umbria is a land of pristine rural landscapes, rolling wooded hills, mountains, valleys and sublime art and architecture. A 2-hour drive from Rome and just 8 kilometres from Assisi, the birthplace of St. Francis, stands the enchanting hillside town of Spello. Peaceful and elegant, with buildings dating back to the Augustan period, it offers excellent restaurants famed for robust Umbrian cuisine and fine wines. Spello is the ideal base from which to discover and explore this extraordinary part of Italy. Within reach are the hill towns of Orvieto, Todi, Citta di Castello, Gubbio, Spoleto and the highly praised wine producing region of Montefalco. Outdoor activities abound for the adventurous – horse riding, walking, cycling, rafting and sailing as well as cross-country skiing in the winter. Allow 2 weeks if you can; be sure to bring your camera and prepare to fall in love! The villa was created by its owner Andrea Falkner Campi (a trained hotelier who lives nearby). She has designed a (3-4 bedroom, 4 bathroom) home that is unique, spacious, extremely comfortable and exceptionally stylish.
The villa is built of pink-tinted stone work, up to one meter thick in places, which keeps the house cool in the summer and warm during winter months.
