  • A must see are the three castles of Porto Ercole, considered the greatest fortification of the 1500s Spanish empire. Take a day trip to nearby town, Pitigliano, where you'll be immersed in Etruscan ruins and typical Tuscan trattorias. Or Sovana, a medieval village with Niki de Saint Phalle's incredible mosaic sculpture park.

How to get there

  • Porto Ercole is most easily accessed by train. The nearest station being Orbetello, just 2.5 kms from the hotel.
  • If flying, the nearest airports are Rome's Fiumicino (140km) or Ciampino (165 km). By car from here, the journey time is between 1.5 and 2 hours. Take the Aurelia SS1/E80 and turn off at the Orbetello exit, following the signs for Porto Ercole.
